Robots on show at Ljubljana faculty

Ljubljana, 4 April - The 10th Days of Industrial Robotics opened at the Ljubljana Faculty of Electrical Engineering on Monday. A showcase of technological innovation, the five-day event gives visitors a chance not only to see robots but also to take on a machine in a game of darts or get a massage from one as well.

The first day was dedicated mostly to lectures, including on advanced robots in agriculture. It also featured a presentation of a vessel which monitors pollution levels, weather conditions, and exceptional events at sea.

But the key feature of the event, according to Marko Munih, head of the faculty's Laboratory of Robotics, are the applications developed by the students in collaboration with Slovenian companies.

These will be presented between Tuesday and Thursday and will include darts- and domino-playing robots, as well as Yumi, a robot designed to work with people. One robot will be giving a massages, while another will be making pop-corn.

Most other robots are more industry-oriented, with one assembling printed circuits and another designed to fill, close, and pack test tubes.

Dean Igor Papič said in his opening address that the aim of the event was to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia, and to give students an insight into their career opportunities.
