Ljubljana uni improves CWUR ranking

Maribor, 28 May - The University of Ljubljana, the country's leading university, has placed 370th among more than 18,000 universities worldwide ranked by the Centre for Worldwide University Ranking (CWUR), up 97 spots from last year.

Meanwhile, the University of Maribor, the second of Slovenia's three public universities, ranked 978th, down from 819th place last year.

The US's Harvard University tops the list, which features eight US and two British universities among the top ten.

Universities are assessed on the basis of seven factors: quality of education, alumni employment, quality of faculty, research output, quality publications, influence and citations.

Just recently, the universities of Ljubljana and Maribor, the two leading and oldest Slovenian public universities, have made it among best universities in 13 EU newcomers compiled by the London-based magazine Times Higher Education.

Ljubljana ranked 11th and Maribor 9th, while the list was topped by the University of Tartu from Estonia.
