Slovenian students develop rock recognition app

Ljubljana, 22 November - Students at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering in Ljubljana have developed a mobile application that can identify typical Slovenian rocks and is designed as an aid in particular for school kids.

Using identification keys, the app guides users through multiple steps as they answer questions about the rocks. Along the way, if offers encyclopaedic explanations of individual rocks and geological terminology.

The app, which is available for download for users of Android devices, was developed as part of the project StoneKey, which received EU and Slovenian budget funding.

It was designed by eight students of geology, design and electrical engineering with the help of a company specialised in e-education materials.
