Supercomputer science lab to be built in Novo mesto

Novo Mesto, 9 February - The Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto will launch today a supercomputer project to help small- and medium-sized companies develop and get additional training.

As part of the Supercomputers for Efficient Innovation Project, the faculty will build a science lab, for which it has secured EUR 2.1m as part of the the cross-border Interreg Danube Region tender.

The faculty is collaborating in the project with an international consortium which consists of 18 partners from 15 countries.

The project combines supercomputing infrastructure and knowledge of experts from the Danube region and offers educational as well as development services for enterprises.

The faculty sees the project as a great achievement and wants to become a regional reference centre for supercomputing simulations to meet the needs of businesses.

The new lab will join the supercomputer Rudolf, which the faculty bought in 2013 as part of the project Creative Core-Simulations, partly funded from the European Regional Development Fund.

Today's supercomputer launch will also feature a round table to discuss opportunities and challenges offered by supercomputers.
