University of Rijeka to open Slovenian lectureship

Ljubljana, 26 March - The University of Ljubljana has signed an agreement with its counterpart in Rijeka, Croatia, to open a lectureship for Slovenian language, literature and culture at the Rijeka Faculty of Arts.

According to a press release from the University of Ljubljana, the lectureship will facilitate academic research and enhance the successful cooperation between the two universities.

University of Ljubljana Chancellor Igor Papič said it was right the two universities made use of their geographic and linguistic proximity.

"Slovenian language will now be available as a selective course to all students at the University of Rijeka," Ines Srdoč Konestra, the dean of the Rijeka Faculty of Arts, was quoted as saying.

Snježana Prijić Samaržija, the chancellor of the University of Rijeka, said that the university had high hopes of its Ljubljana counterpart, which she described as an important European university.

Papič linked the agreement to the Ljubljana university's strategy of internationalisation.
