The private, international university has announced in a press release on Monday that the centre will aspire to become a leading European institution in AI regulation and responsible application.

"We are focused on practical AI solutions that benefit society, such as those that prioritise privacy protection," Jurij Toplak, a professor at Alma Mater Europaea, said.

The centre consists of 30 core and associate members, including top-tier scientists and members of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Among them are Oreste Pollicino Bocconi, university professor and AI law expert, and Klaus Mainzer, author of Artificial Intelligence and president of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Spanning 500 square metres, the centre provides space for research and various events. In its first year, it will organise a series of panel discussions.

On 8 February, two panels on AI will take place in Washington, where international experts will address regulatory and ethical considerations, along with AI-driven innovations in healthcare and social sciences.

In addition to hosting educational seminars, courses, and workshops in collaboration with the business sector, the centre will also offer a doctoral programme in applied AI. It aims to introduce AI Day into Austrian and Slovenian schools.

Furthermore, Alma Mater Europaea plans to use the centre as a venue for exhibitions featuring Slovenian artists, book presentations by Slovenian authors, and other Slovenia-related cultural events.
